Well, my shop didn't win the 'Peoples Choice' 'Best Retailer' section in the VISIT LONDON AWARDS.
This of course came as no surprise, being on a shortlist with Selfridges, John Lewis, Hamleys and Topshop!!!
Selfridges won and deservedly so.
The Awards ceremony was an ‘Ab Fab’ glittering occasion at the Royal Albert Hall and I thoroughly enjoyed it, the highlight being Michael Cane who turned up to collect his London ’s Favourite Londoner award!
So many thanks to all you lovely people who voted for me!

Anyway to turn to thoughts of Christmas, I have just finished a new batch of my Art cushions, as featured in ‘Time Out’ last week. They make a very special present!

And don’t forget my gorgeous party frocks…..!

The Art of the Knit - Penny Burdett celebrates 20 years at Camden Lock

If you can paint it, sculpt it, print it or create it in cloth, you can knit it! Penny Burdett has never been constrained in her designs by the conventional. The mid eighties was an exciting time to design knitwear. Penny's first venture into retailing her designs was at Camden Lock market in 1986, where there was a plethora of maker/designers, vintage and antique stalls and a vibrant creative atmosphere. The reaction to her work was excellent and when she showed her work at the prestigious Chelsea Craft Fair, she gained wholesale orders for her work worldwide.

Penny celebrated 20 years in business on Thursday 9th November with a special archive display of her knits at her shop and her guests made the effort to take some vintage Penny Burdett originals out of mothballs for the occasion!
It was good to see how her work has progressed over the years while retaining her distinctive style.

Fashion Show September 2006:

Recently knitting has become a major pleasure of stars awaiting their next film take. Both the focus on hand knitting and customisation has led a trend for emphasis on handmade originality and detail. 20 years on, Penny still designs and retails her work at her shop, keeping it local and hands on, and wholesales her designs to select boutiques, finding the design/making process to be absolutely compulsive. She was also the instigator of the extremely successful Camden Fashion Show, now into its sixth year. It was a major success and thank you to all those who came. For more visuals, click here.
